nope, I just got a vacuum pump and suck it out the dipstick tube w/out ever crawling under there.

Agreed on the oil pump. I got mine at Harbor Freight and it makes it a breeze and no mess. My only complaint is that you have to get the line inserted just the right amount to get it all. Not far enough and you have to start pumping again after inserting more... Too far and the line curls up causing the same problem and having to back it out and find the right spot. I marked the ideal line insertion with tape for next time.

I've got a Pela PL-650 and the tubing is stiff and cant curl up in the pan.. just shove it down the dip stick tube until it wont go no further and then start pumping.

Luckily the last 3 vehicles I purchased all have the oil filter easily accessible from the top.. yay TDI.

I disagree for the 3.6. Belly pan R&R is maybe 10% of the job. Oil filter change is 80%. Once you've done that, R&R of the oil drain plug adds maybe 3% to the job, close to being a nit. VW/Audi started with close to the worst case job for the oil filter, then to make it more challenging in the Q7, Audi ran a refrigeration hose smack-dab under the middle of it.
