NON-TDI Owners: What's Ur Real World Gas Mileage
#12
I know you had asked about the 3.6 or 4.2 MPG, but I just wanted to throw in that I have a 3.0T(333HP) engine and I am only getting 13.5 MPG with 80% city driving. I thought that the new 3.0T's were supposed to get better mileage than the outgoing 3.6 and 4.2's, but it doesn't seem to be the case with mine.

nah, i sorta expected it going to a much heavier car such as the Q7....albeit closer to 18 MPG. just a bit more sensitive now that premium gas in the Bay Area is about $4.15/gallon. had gas prices stayed about the same recently and i'm getting my 15-16 MPG, i would not even have brought this up. hahaha.

3.6 premium-sunroof delete, 18" wheels
Last 2 fill ups city 19.1 mpg & hwy 20.9mpg (when I drive) 18.3mpg when my wife drives.
I did not use the trip meter just the old school way of miles travelled over gallons used.

15-16mpg in real life is about right. I think the car only gets 13mpg in the city driving and 19mpg on freeway. I got used to it by now. I used to check every time I fill her up, but not any more- 300-350 miles for 20-21 gallons like clock work.
BTW, never trust the computer average mpg, it's wrong. Mine has always been 18-19mpg on the display.
Cheers,
Louis

The big advantage of teh computer is not so much for absolute results (let's face it whether we get 17.1 or 18.05 is not going to make any major difference!) but it is great for giving relative performance so you know when there is changes

I was getting 21 MPG on a 550 mile long trip where we were going 80MPH most of the way. That's close to the 22MPG highway claim, so I'm not sure there is an issue. I was expecting to get 22+ though on that long of a drive because it is pretty much a constant 80MPH without much speeding up/slowing down.
