Thanks for reading my post. I am the proud owner of a 2007 Q7 3.2 Premium. I am getting it tomorrow, but had a few questions about the iPod connectivity in the car.

It seems from the factory it was loaded with pretty much everything. Navigation, Tech pkg, Infotainment Pkg, etc, but I saw no mention of the AMI. Im not sure if the guy had it installed afterwards or not, since I havent seen the car, but lets assume they didnt.

Id like to know what I would need to give me my best options for iPod connectivity, so I can see the names of the songs, playlists etc in the car (coming from an iDrive so a little spoilt that way)

I do not think AMI was available until 01/2007. You can still retrofit the AMI, or can get a dension GW500 unit like I did (since at the time AMI retrofit was very expensive)

My 07 3.6 has AMI.

The interface sucks, the consistency is terrible and if working will always revert to the highest order alphabetical song or podcast. This using iPhone 3G and now iP4.

Long car trip this week proved I COULD connect, but this just seems to be 'magical' as earlier attempts often are met with 'this device cannot be initialized' or some other BS.

It IS possible you will not have the cable needed to attach under the center armrest. It will cost you from $25 (used) to $80 dealer (new). There are different versions. Get the latest one, but don;t be surprised when it does not work.

I have tried to follow a particular connect and button push diagram to see if this is what causes the issue. But it just seems to work or not work on a whim.

Were I you and had not already spent $80 on a $%$^&& cable, I might look at aftermarket solutions, although some of the less expensive ones (Grom) seem not yet avail for MMI/sat systems.
