Default Looking to purchase 07/08/09 Q7

Hi all,
I'm looking to purchase a Q7, I see an 08 & 09 I'm interested in.

My questions are what year(s) are the first production years, and are prone to have more issues? What year(s) should I consider?

3.6 or 4.2? Besides the engine what are the differences?

What are the common issues with the Q7? What should I expect with a vehicle with 60-70,000 miles?

I tried to do some searching but I've been getting errors with the mobile app.. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

We test drove a 2008 Q7 and i must admit, it was beautiful!!!

A few friends have the 08 and 09 model and the 09 had a few water leakage problems and electrical issues with windows, but nothing apart from that really.

i would go for the 2008 personally though, but its what ever you feel most happy in.

Thank you for your feedback. I did read about some sunroof leakage. Can you let me know why you choose the '08 vs '09? Is the '09 a facelift model?

To be honest is was the price that i went for, the 2008 model is nearlly the same as the 09, but the thing that bothered me the most was the fuel guzzling the Q7 does, it drinks fuel for fun!

Both are gorgeous cars, but if your budget stretches that far i would go for the 09 model. I dont think there was much different in the facelift, i like the faces on them.

Gotcha.. Thanks. I did notice the city/hwy estimates.. It's crazy low... I guess it just as bad as my BMW 7 series. I'll probably lean towards the 3.6 vs 4.2, which do you have/had?

2010 is the facelift year, along with the diesel engine in North America. As far as the engine choice, I've seen 4.2 engines going through 20 liters of gas per 100 kilometers in the city. But the exhaust sound is just intoxicating!! The 3.6 has done very good for me, over 900 km per tank on the highway, more than enough power in hills without a trailer but with the truck loaded.

In all the engine choice depends more on your wallet and what you want to do with the truck. If you were to tow a couple times a year over long milleage,I'd go with the V8, if not, the V6 does fine and is fairly reliable.

Thanks for that.. Any known issues at higher mileage I should take into consideration? Like cooling issues, leaky gaskets, oil consumption, etc?

I have an 08 Q7 premium 3.6L . It's been a trouble free truck @36k miles. If you do drive a lot, gas mileage may be a concern, never seen 20MPG, average 15MPG.

Cheers and good luck,

Louis

The 4.2 has a history of timing chain tensioners failling in other models at a higher milleage along with leaking valve covers. The air conditioner compressor is mounted in the back of the engine and driven by a chain. One person on the allroad forum mentioned he always greased that gear on every oil change.

I have a 2013 Q7 with 3L TDI and love it for performance and fuel mileage. Not sure if available on earlier years.
