I Have A Question To Which I Am Sure There Is A Good Answer Or Mybe Not..
Why would Audi not offer the turbodiesel V-8 for the Q7?
1) They are the ones marketing it as a performance oriented SUV
2) While fuel economy figures are not as good the V-6 turbodiesel, they are more than acceptable for a 5500lbs car.
3) Speaking of a 55000 car, will 230 horses suffice with 5-6 people their gear and even a moderately sized trailer. I know the American buyer, as soon as someone encounters those conditions and the V-6 turbodiesel doesn't perform well, we will **** and moan to no end. I know that there is good torque in that engine, but there are many times when you need horsepower to get you through and there is only so much you can expect from 230 bhp pulling 5500 pounds of vehicle, 800 pounds of people, 500 ponds of gear and 3000 pounds of trailer (as an example). 300 bhp and nearly 500ft/lbs at only a 5mpg loss is to my mind a great trade off. So why, why, why, why, why no V-8 turbodiesel????
I am mostly kidding about the angst, but I would like to know if someone could/would share some insight as to what Audis thinking might be on this.

I'm sure they work on it for a future model year
I read somewhere about a V12 turbo Diesel rumor ...
If they engine fits in there theoretically, I'm sure it will be offered. The Touareg has a V10 TDI, I'm sure Audi will offer some higher output turbo Diesel in the future.

This Is The TDI I Would Think Audi Would Have Designed The Q7 For...
the germans may be some of the most brillant automotive engineers as a whole, but could be the worst marketers on the planet. Knowing this engine and the Q7 were on the horizon, it is amazing to me that Audi did not see this as a natural match. Imagine being able to promote a luxury performance SUV that gets 590 miles to tank of gas! This engine is just screaming the Q7's name. This is an excerpt from an article on Blog Explosion:
240 kW (326 bhp): With this extremely impressive power output, the new Audi A8 4.2 TDI quattro puts itself ahead of all the other diesel-engined cars on the international market. The entirely redeveloped 4.2-litre, eight-cylinder biturbo engine accelerates the lightweight saloon with its aluminium body from 0 to 100 km/h (0 - 62 mph) in just 5.9 seconds. The top speed is electronically restricted to 250 km/h. In addition to these dynamic qualities, the new power plant displays the kind of refinement that sets standards even in the top segment of the motoring world, and ennobles the A8 4.2 TDI quattro, turning it into the perfect long-distance touring saloon.
The new engine is also exemplary in terms of economy. Combined as standard with quattro permanent four-wheel drive and 6-speed tiptronic transmission, it uses on average just 9.4 litres of diesel fuel for every 100 kilometres. This means it will cover more than 950 kilometres (590 miles) on a full tank without a stop.

Re: I Have A Question To Which I Am Sure There Is A Good Answer Or Mybe Not..
Check out last months issue of Diesel Power magazine. The mag covers mostly large pick up's, however they have had some nice write up's on diesel power in cars, trucks and SUV's.
They have a nice write up on Audi diesel power and how likely one will show up in the U.S
