So...
I've been anxious to check out this set up. The wife's XC comes off lease soon and I had intentionally timed it to coincide with the projected arrival date (ie shortest lease possible to placate her, knowing it wasn't what I really wanted). Having waited years for my B5S4 avant on perma-deposit, I was prepared to do the same.
Some keys dropped in my lap and I had just a few minutes to give one a looksie. Some celebs and otherwise influential folks have been given a shot behind (or way behind) the wheel, why not a commoner. :-)
Main comments mostly to the motor/drivetrain as this is the heart of the matter.
First impressions: By golly, it does percolate a bit, just like a diesel, yup. Not distracting at all and verrry smooth and quiet, especially with the windows up. But I figured any new audi would be ear calm, so I left the glass down to tske a listen and feel the work. Love to hear turbos spooling and the convoy vibe is kinda fun.
Gets off the line just fine, can really feel it dig in. Initially I thought it equal in pep to the I6 in the XC90 (235), but as I drove a little more I could sense the slightly lower HP and/or weight difference. It's more 'fun' to feel the down low grunt than to wring it for more rpm for sure, torque ftw!, but the going is steady if not strong through the powerband.
Very utilitarian and plenty of go.
Summary: Will need to have a longer drive. If the price point is reasonable, I personally really like the idea not only of mpg, but simply using less overseas petroleum. For someone that commutes a bunch and/or likes to make long drives (>12hrs) on occasion, the idea of >25mpg is really cool.
That said...if there are deals to be had, I might be forced into something sooner anyway and at least I know what I'll be missing. The current V6 is plenty peppy for me and you can't help but love the feel and sound of the V8 (but it's too thirsty for me). The pending V6S though...hmmmm...should be a nice set up, but I'd rather have it in my replacement S4 avant. (bring it).
Other:
This one had the B&O sound system, but figure these are not necessarily built for the real incoming units.
Keep it reasonable premium over the V6 and bring it now please.
