hi. got a problem with the boot latch on my 4l, basically makes like an automated rifle noise when opening and doesn't want to close it up. have to try several times. any ideas?

check for foreign objects, a rock or something could have fallen in the latch mechanism

This has been brought up somewhere else in the forum. I believe it has to do with the locking mechanism attached to the bumper. Within the mechanism is a wheel with "teeth" and when one breaks the wheel is unable to fully complete the locking process. I actually had this issue and was looking into the fix. Then one day my wife pulled out of our garage with the hatch open, damaging the hatch so through our insurance company we got it fixed at a local body shop. Initially they tried to return the Q to us with the hatch still making that noise, we refused to take it back until they fixed that issue, which they did. The funny thing about this story is that i was so mad at my wife for doing that and the day before we had it scheduled to get fixed, I also try to pull out of the garage with the hatch open. Good thing it was before and not after. Now I triple check before driving out of the garage.
