Blower motor replacement - what to buy?
What have you folks had good luck with? I know you can go super cheap and get a less robust looking unit for 50 bucks. Is that the way to go, or drop the coin and buy the Valero?

I recall there was a fair bit of discussion on this exact topic recently, though I don't recall if the lead topic was this or something seemingly unrelated. Anyhow, several folks said that they went with inexpensive units and have had (so far) good results for the most part.

I had to replace mine recently. I went with a cheap one from Amazon. It works great, but it very noisy. If I had to do it again, I'd buy the OE one, just because it was almost silent. my two cents.

I used a Febi-Bilstein, thinking the German aftermarket brand should have a decent product. Well, overall it worked ok, but the air flow is weak compared to OE. Since prices all have come down, I would look at OE first (about $275, 4L1-820-021-B?).
OEM may be VDO-Continental? At $145 on Rock Auto that is a good deal if the brand actually is OEM.

Otherwise try Four Seasons, looks like a popular item on Rock Auto, along with VDO and GPD.

I bought one on ebay years ago. I just picked one that had a brand name that I recognized. It's been working fine for probably five years or more now. I installed it in a 2014 Q7 that we bought used in 2018. The blower went up within six months after we bought the car. Fortunately, we have not had any other issues since.

I installed this one in the spring. So far so good. MIGHT be a little less airflow than OEM. Hard to be sure about that. It’s enough and we’re in Alabama.
