The Q7, especially since the design refresh added the bixenon HID available since 2010, has great lighting. I would do the easy, relatively low cost mods, such as upgrade the HID bulbs to the latest Nightbreaker 'laser' HID bulbs 2.0, or whatever is testing best these days. I'd also replace, and I have, the fog bulbs with high output LED bulbs as those OE fog bulbs are rather weak. I bought the "Eye of Megatron" Japanese LED bulbs on Amazon during a flash sale, and including the resister/decoder harness inserts paid $60 US total for the kit. It's plug & play easy, and man, what a difference it makes.
We just replaced the OE HID bulbs about a year + ago just after purchasing the car, so haven't gotten around to upgrading those as yet, but the plug & play upgrades are both highly effective to raise lumens output, and are way cheaper than buying high quality light bars that will last.
I do like the install the thread poster did, as it is fairly low-key, but I also value the stealthy, sleek, aerodynamic look of the Q7 as designed. I say get better quality/higher output modern replacement bulbs first, and if still not satisfied with the increased light output, which is extremely significant by-the-way, then go knock yourself out figuring out installation/wiring/switches/ amp loads, etc.
