Default Another painted caliper thread

Been contemplating painting my calipers since I bought the Q 2 years ago. I was ready to paint them myself using the G2 paint as others here have done. I helped a friend paint his Q5 calipers with the G2 and the results were underwhelming; brushstrokes were visible and he thinks the color has faded after 1 1/2 years. I decided to spend a little extra $ and have them done professionally by 180Customs in Gravesend ,Bklyn. These guys are awesome and are well known on the S4/A4, S5/A5 boards. I took some quick iPhone pics and will post better ones when I detail the Q7. BTW, the color is "Guards Red" which is factory code for Porsche. Next up is spacers and painting the rusty hubs(with G2) silver.

Looks great! I'm also thinking about having my calipers painted. Did you have yours powder coated or clear coated?

Was it a full day affair? Drop off in AM, pick up at closing...or overnight?

Im near that shop and might have interest.

Cost was about $100 a caliper?

It's the only way to go! I also have mine done. Though my rim shop sprayed them. I've only had them spray them once in over a year no issues. Not sure what they used but it was sprayed on like a spray paint.

They ask you if you want it done. When you get your wheels. But as much as I paid for wheels I probably paid for it.

they are painted with high temp resistant paint and clearcoat on top, powdercoat does not fare well in hi temperature setting suchs as brake calipers or exhaust systems. the car needs 24 hours for the paint to cure; mine needed an extra 12 hours because the stickers i provided didn't take well and they had to print new ones. cost was $500 but well worth it IMO. the Quality is flawless and looks like they rolled out of the factory painted.

I would like to have it done in my 13' black S-line too. Do you know if they took the caliper off the car or they painted in place. I'm afraid of the overspray if done in place. Where can I get the decals?

Thanks,

Alex

They definitely removed the calipers from the car; the inner most part of the brakes is painted too. They have to disassemble the calipers to paint them fully. I bought the decals on eBay over a year ago and the shop said they didn't like how the decals adhered to the brakes so they reprinted their own stickers. I can try to find the sticker source if you need it.
