Default 4.2l thermostat failure, multiple failures

Not sure if its my luck, or something else wrong. I have replaced 2 thermostats in my Q7 so far.

The first one i replaced the engine coolant would not warm up, gauge would stay at C, and there was a code for a short at the thermostat.

Car ran great for i say 10K.

The second one the car was over heating, there was another fault for the thermostat (stuck closed).

Replaced again, and car ran great for around 8k.

I am now getting the same symptom as my first thermostat where it says there is a short and the temp gauge does not move past minimum.

Not sure what to do now, I verified the short by measuring the leads off the thermostat and it measures 0 ohms, so it is shorted. I measured a brand new one and it was an open circuit.

Am i just getting crappy parts from Audi?

A Bad lot could happen.

Has the parts fail with-in 0ne year of purchase? Cause all OEM parts have a 12 month warranty.
