Default 2015 Q7 TDI - buy extended warranty? thoughts? $$$!

In December 2017 we sold back our 2011 Premium Plus Q7 TDI and immediately purchased a new stop/hold 2015 Q7 s-line TDI. Like many here it was like upgrading for free or almost free. Got about 42K back including Bosch... and bought for the same $. crazy. Once in a lifetime car deal.

Last month we had an electrical problem in our 2015 TDI that took the dealer 5 weeks to get the part and fix. We got a 2021 q7 gas Q7 loaner. After that 5 weeks in the 2021 Q7 loaner we realized we want to keep our 2015 TDI longer. The 2015 TDI is a much better heavier solid car, and even with a little power loss from the fix, the diesel is so much better all around.

That said...our warranty is going to run out in January. I got a price for 3 more years (84 months instead of the 48 it came with) for $3970 that covers us up to 70K miles. We drive just under 10K miles a year, with 38K miles on it now, so that should do it. That is MSRP for the extended Platinum Audi bumper to bumper warranty. My Audi dealer indicated there may be some wiggle room on that price?

I understand our Q7 TDI now has a extended warranty that covers a lot of emmission related components but I worry about all the electronic other things that can go wrong.

EXTENDED WARRANTY? any suggestions appreciated. Where can I shop this for a better deal if so? Thank you.

Below a pic of us picking up our new s-line being picked up at a Walmart parking lot in NH (shipped from Audi Grapevine Texas). That is our 2011 we would sell back just after that. The 2 best cars we have ever had!

2 best cars ever.

Nice trade up! Recommend you go to the Audi TDI settlement site and look up your VIN# to see what exactly is covered and for how long. Print file copies and read it over until it sinks in. It's much more extensive than most TDI owners (and Audi dealers) realize. That said, if money is no object and it makes you feel better to have the 'factory extended warranty', then negotiate a lower price for it. At the end of the day, they are simply taking a swipe at your wallet by getting you to pony up nearly $4k as a hedge against your fear of the future, which is really all about up-selling and profit-making/profit-taking, and is not about taking care of you, the owner. FYI, Audi lists the drive-line's fluids as a "lifetime fill", and doesn't change them, ever, which of course is simply a plan for a future mechanical failure.

Get to know your car a bit better and you'll find it's really not so scary, difficult, or expensive to maintain, unless you keep taking it to Audi.

Thanks. I think you are talking about the below list - attached. I am aware of this. My worry is the electronic/electrical stuff. As I said above, my 2015 Q7 TDI was just at Audi for 5 weeks for a problem with the rear doors drawing electric power constantly and the battery going dead. They had to replace the rear passenger door handles and have them painted. My wife dealt with it...and I didn't care as long as we had a loaner. That would have cost a lot!

I just bought a 3 year extended warranty on my F150 and just after, the skylight track motor went. That 3 year extended Ford warranty was $1300 and included free oil changes and inspections! This repair on the F150 skylight easily would have been more than I paid for the extended warranty. much more.

My Audi dealer has just agreed to go down $500 to $3470 for 3 more years Audi Platinum.... I'm thinking about it... One electrical or computer repair and it will pay off. It is a gamble...but I won't have to run over to the dealer and make sure they aren't ripping off my wife. I can just let them do what they want if it is covered, and give her a loaner.

thank you so much. that is a great list I didn't know about.

But...question...that list link above says it is for 3.0L TDI generation 1.1
Isn't my 2015 a Generation 2?

No, Gen 1.1 means you got a curvy gen 1 body style, but with the engine/turbo/transmission upgrades/revisions put into just the last few years of production. Gen 2 Q7 is 2016+/new edgy bodystyle.

Yes, but w/factory running boards. Added Carplay interface kit, Weather Tech floor mats, Liqui-Moly Ceratec, and perhaps just a few drops of fuel boost additive

Following your discussion because we are in exactly the same position. Sold back a 2011TDI and bought a 2015 TDI with the fix. We’ve already replaced 2 door handles under OEM warranty. Now at 96000 miles under only extended emissions warranty. So far it has covered the few issues we have had. Have a solicitation for extended warranty from dealer on my desk right now. Good investment? Not sure. They don’t sell these things to lose money on them.
BTW feel the same as you about the 4L TDI Q7. Just a superior vehicle to the new ones.
