Default 2010 Q7 excessive tire wear.

MY 2010 Q7 4.2 s-line with 21 wheel option, Purchased October 2009 and driven only 10k miles I already need new tires. I noticed cupping of the tread and the dealer informed me it was an alignment issue. I was able to get Audi to cover the cost of the alignment and rt front caster was out only slightly off. They say the wear is normal? Is anyone else having this issue?

What tire pressures are you running?

Define "normal", where "normal" is entirely dependent on the driving conditions and your driving style.

Not to patronise, but the Q7 is a very heavy permanent 4WD vehicle - it is not a sedan, it is not an estate/avant - and it is definately not a sports coupe... despite that "S" on the shifter :-) .

Let me put it another way... I heard all manner of horror stories before I bought my 20" rubber shod monster. Some people were saying "5000 km and I need new tires!" - this made me nervous.

However, with normal driving (read: prtty much within or close to the speed limits, cornering like someone concious of the fact I'm driving a HUGE car and have some concept of the limits of physics) my Q7 tires last 30-50 k km.

It dep[ends on so many things. Anthoer example would be that summer speed tires like GY Eagle F1 wear 50-70% faster than AS tires.

I am at ~50,000 miles and on my 3rd set of tires on 20" rims. Here is hoping my latest Toyos will last more then a year!

Check the spreadsheet to see some reported replacement mileages. IE tyres 10m would imply the owner of this car replaced tyres with the same make again at 10,000 miles (k for kilometers).
You may notice the huge variation in tyre/tire wear acccross all rim sizes, models and locations.
This implies pressure, driving style and allignment are all critical.
10000 miles is below average but nowhere near the worst.
With care and proper setup you could reasonably expect to double this mileage.
In general the Q7 will wear evenly accross the tread and put more wear on the rears than fronts (without rotation).
That is based on average conditions. Perhaps there is some highly abrasive surface near you or unusual parking conditions.

All based on personal experience and records from the forum.

2010 TDI. With close 11k miles. Tread wear looks fantastic, almost new.

Non aggressive driving (wife bus kids around town). A couple of WOT when I have it, but that's it.
