Default Cooling Preparation Needed for Towing?

Quick question. I shall be towing a race car from the UK to Hungary. As it shall be in the height of the summer, has anybody had overheating issues? My car does not have the factory tow package which I believe has a larger alternator and some additional cooling items (not sure what). Any modifications that help with cooling issues that should be done?

In addition, I have the paddle shifts, do people generally use down shifts to brake rather than using brakes where possible?

Any help much appreciated.

When i ordered mine with factory towbar, i was told the Q7 had fitted gearbox and colling parts allready. Your dealer could confirm...

I'll confirm, but pretty sure it hasn't. Just wondered what upgrades you would do post factory to be the same.

My understanding is that if you have the factory tow package Audi upgraded the entire cooling system, engine and trans.

Ah OK, thought it was just a bigger fan and alternator or something ;-) I assume towing without is still satisfactory.

If everything is working as designed, all cooling system parts are functioning correctly, there is virtually no likelihood you will encounter any problems.

My guess is that most Q7, Touaregs and Cayennes which are used for towing have after-market tow-bars and the hundreds you see towing trailers throughout Europe in the summer all seem fine.

Just looked at my window sticker on my 2014 TDI. Here is what shows under the tow package:

-6,600 lbs towing capacity
-trailer hitch receiver
-increased engine cooling capacity

Should be OK then as just had full service with coolants checked and gearbox oil changed.

It would be interesting to see what Audi actually reckon is changed, especially when you order with the towing package, it is often retro fitted by the dealer as part of their prep.
