Default The ticking noise in my 2018 Q5 is finally fixed!

I'm glad to report that the ticking noise in my 2018 Q5 has finally been taken care of! The noise is gone.

While I had the car at the dealer for the window regulator recall, I demonstrated the ticking noise to the shop foreman one more time...this time using the ODBEleven method I posted above. I offered to loan the tool to him so he could pinpoint the noise, but he said he could duplicate the same test with his own equipment.

The dealer called me later that day and asked to keep my car one extra night so they could order a replacement antenna for the center console.

The foreman really did a great job. He said he wrapped the new component in foam material so I'm not really sure if the noise was resolved by his handy work, the new antenna, or a combination of both. I am really thrilled that this ticking noise is gone because this was my only annoyance with the Q5.

I repeated the ODBEleven test method I posted above after the fix to see what I could hear. I found that if I put my ear super close to the center console I could hear a much quieter version of the tick noise so I know the new part is installed and working, I just don't hear a very loud ticking sound like I've been hearing for the past year.

So bottom line....this problem can be resolved if your dealer takes the time to work at it. I thanked the foreman today for putting in the effort to get it resolved.

(Note: I can't seem to include photos I took of the new antenna box and the old antenna assembly. I'll try again later.)

It's clear the part number has changed, wonder if it was redesigned.

If you have a picture of the work order as well that may help me resolve it as well.

Thanks!

You are very welcome! Here's a picture of the work order. It does look the first 3 digits of the part number have changed, I don't if that is significant or not.

Old = "80A"-907-247-A
New = "4M0"-907-247-A

Yeah I'm not sure either but i certainly looked for it . And thanks for the scan, perfect. Just the lingo I was looking for to pass along. My car has been in for three weeks for the squeaky seat frame, but I doubt they've even bother with the clicking I also listed on the drop off paperwork. Hopefully this helps.

Thanks again

Excellent thread. I have also heard this sound on my 2017 S8+. Sounds like a hard drive accessing data.

Anyone happen to have the diagrams/steps to get to the antenna? Is like to add some sound proofing myself?

Bump, anyone know where this module is located in the center console? Can I access it by removing the rear console vent panel?

I didn't see the work while it was being done, but I remember the foreman pointing to the right of the shifter. I wish I could give a better description of the location.

It's probably worth noting it is a year later (January 2019 to January 2020) and the behavior remains good meaning no increase in the tick sound.

Good luck!
