Strange MP3 Playback Problem
I am the owner of a 2023 Q5.
I am reaching out to this group for insight on my issue as I have been unable to solve it in Audio forums over several months. It is my hope that perhaps someone else has experienced this issue and has a solution.
I belong to a choir but do not read music. Therefore, I listen to recordings of the music my choir is performing to familiarize myself with the music. These files are readily available from the sheet music provider's site and are not copy protected (DRM).
If I record the music on a newer PC (2020) and dump to a USB drive, the files will not play in my Q5. If I record the music on an older PC (2016) and dump to a USB drive, the files play perfectly. This applies if the files are in .mp3 or .wav format. I have attempted formatting the USB drives in Fat32, exFat and NTFS but the results are always the same. The files play perfectly in both PCs from the USB drives. I have verified that the files are not copy protected.
I did not experience this problem with my 2018 Q5.
Thank you for your time.

Thank you for getting back to me.
I formatted the drive to MSDOS FAT and it still does not read the files.
I discovered today that if I record the mp3 directly to the USB, as opposed to recording it to my PC and transferring it to the USB drive, it plays. I have recorded on 2 other PCs and transferred to the USB drive with no problem. Therefore, the problem has to be a setting on my PC.

I've had media files that wouldn't play on certain devices. One solution has been to use a free media conversion program (e.g. Any Video Converter) to simply load and convert the file to the same format and the "conversion" will fix the issue.
It's possible the recording software isn't closing the file properly. You could also try a different recording software. Audacity has been my standard for over a decade. Funky interface, but it works well once you figure it out.
There are specific maximum bit rate of various media files that the MMI can handle. If you right click on the good and bad files and compare the bit rates (properties tab), this will show differences. Likely not this, but it's possible.

I have been using Macs for a long time so I use the Music app built into the OS. So I move the music or video files to a folder on the desktop just to keep things organized then move--not copy--the files or folders to the USB.

Thank you for responding.
IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The problem is involved with COPYING the file directly to the USB stick. I have tried multiple varied processes but whenever the file is directly copied from my Yoga i7 PC to the USB stick, the files will not play in my vehicles. It only happens with that PC, but that is the one that I primarily use. I've had the PC for more than 3 years and the problem only occurred in the last 6 months. It must be related to a software/firmware upgrade/change.
I appreciate the support that I have received in this forum.
