Default Oil change interval..

I know the manual says 10k miles, however my 2018 SQ5 started the "Oil change in 30 days" message today. I am at 56xx miles and it is only 8 months old.. I plan on taking it to dealer for change in the next month, but why the early notice. Can I assume it is driving habits, short trips, etc. Not a lot of straight highway driving, wife is only 10 miles from work...

TIA

What is the build date of the SQ5? the message usually comes 1yr or 10k miles. i dropped the original oil within the first 1k-2k miles. i change my oil every 5k.

Not sure of date, but I got it in December of 2017. I do know that it was an order, person had buyers remorse on black and ordered a different color. Don't know how long it was on lot before I got it.. How do I find date???

First oil change is scheduled for 5k. It’s every 10k thereafter.

Owners manual - under changing the engine oil -Checking and Filling chapter.

Under some circumstances the engine oil should
be changed more frequently. Change oil more often
if you drive mostly short distances, operate
the vehicle in dusty areas or under predominantly
stop-and-go traffic conditions, or have your vehicle
where temperatures remain below freezing
for extended periods.

Used to be like that, for mine, states every 10k, that is why I am wondering why it is giving me the warning. I am going to schedule it, just was wondering why.... I have the Audi Care, so it is no big deal...

As said above, you're probably running up on the time limit, obviously not the mileage limit. I'm not sure if the dealer can reset it for a defined mileage though, so worth looking into. If they can't, just get it reset to turn off the notification and chine and keep an eye out when you're closing in on 10k

If you have any interest in doing it yourself, it's an easy one on obd11. The actual oil change is the easiest one I've ever done. First car I've owned that the fuel filter is up top. While using a fluid extractor, I did my wife's brakes at the same time as the oil change

The Audi service guide says 10k miles or 1 year from when it "entered service" which they seem to define as when it is first sold rather than when it is first operated to test or transport. I assume they do this because they think it will leave the buyer with a better feeling than having a reminder that their "new" car has been sitting around for 3-6 months prior to sale. The difference probably does not matter for a low mileage car with good synthetic oil.

However, the dealers seem to be frequently forgetting to adjust this interval properly during the pre-sale prep. Even if the alert goes off early, you have to wait until the real calendar date or mileage threshold to get the first service covered by Audi. So, you end up being reminded of how long your car sat around anyway... our Q3 first-service reminder was very confused, seeming to be in between every possible interval we could imagine. It was less than 12 months after production date, more than 6 months after sales date, and more than 5k miles. It made me wonder whether the instrument cluster gets initialized before the production date and never got reprogrammed, or if dealer tech tried to set it for my sales date and had a bad head for numbers that day...
