Well, I got it "installed". I appreciate all the information, and particularly to Iain B for the locating picture. That plug is a lot smaller than I envisioned.
It seems to be calibrated correctly - it compares well with the electronic level. Looks like I've used about a half quart since the oil was changed last December, about 6,000 miles ago. Or possibly, the tech didn't actually fill it to the "Full" mark. I'll be sure and check as soon as I get the oil changed next.
I'll also remove the "fancy" dipstick when I take it in, just in case the tech takes a liking to it and forgets to put it back in ....

Which ECS dipstick did you order?
I just received one from ECS, and it did not fit. Too “fat” to fit snugly in tube. Called ECS and they said they don’t have one. I said I searched for one, got a part number, ordered and received it, but it doesn’t fit. He looked at my order and said “oh yeah, I see that you searched for a 2021 SQ5 dipstick, but our search engine doesn’t work that way”. Ooooooook???? I guess I need help from someone with real world knowledge.

I'll take a look in my SQ5 file and see if I saved the receipt and let you know. The one I got fits perfectly in the tube.

Subscribing to learn which one works or not. Did not know that there was a dipstick tube there.

The engines still have the dipstick tube, that's how the oil extraction is done. There's just no longer a dipstick itself, just a cap.
The stick measurements for the CWGD (3.0T EA839) are already known. 474mm from top to max, and 16mm from max to min. That's a good bit longer than the EA837 V6 engines, much longer than the EA824 V8 engines, and shorter than the EA888 I4 engines. Oddly, the DECA (2.9T EA839) is not the exact same: 476mm to max and then 14mm to min. So same min level in the pan, but 2mm less for max level. Close enough.
"received one from ECS", which one? For all we know, it might be obvious you ordered the wrong thing. Or it might be you got a bad build of one that should have worked. Or, more likely, they just sent you the wrong one.
The CWGD is the same engine in the S4/S5/SQ5, so the same stick should work just fine in all. The threads seem to reference https://www.ecstuning.com/b-ecs-part...954ecs01-01~a/ and https://www.ecstuning.com/b-ecs-part...954ecs01-02~a/.
