Default Dipstick location for 2021 SQ5

This is probably the stupidest question ever asked on this forum, so don't laugh too hard.

But - where does one insert an aftermarket oil dipstick on a 2021 SQ5 3.0 liter V6? I've looked all over the place and can't find where the plug is that needs to be removed to reveal the diptube. Does the big decorative cover have to be removed to access it?

Yes.
After the cover is removed, right in front.

Thanks. I'll give it a shot. The cover needs cleaning anyway, and easier to do off the car.

Do you leave your dipstick in all the time, or just put it in when you need to check the oil?

I currently only have an adjustable service type dipstick, not the fancy one and only use it when checking when changing my oil.
I believe most folks with fancy one leave it in.

I have the ("fancy") ECS dipstick. I leave it in.

I ordered that one too and it came in a couple of days ago. Went to the garage to put it in and found out I had no idea where to put it. Figured the fancy cover would have to come off but wanted to ask first.

I'm wondering if I need to remove it when I take the car in for oil change/service in a couple months, just in case the technician "forgets" to put it back in.
