Default Clunking sound going over bumps.

Does anyone ever notice a clunking/rattling sound in the rear when going over bumps or in potholes? My car is just a few hundreds under 40k, but I have this really annoying sound, sometimes when going over the smallest bumps. I asked the dealer to check on it, but magically, they can't "reproduce the sound" when they take it for a test drive. At first I was assuming it was probably the exhaust that was loose(after market AWE), but the more I listen to the sound each day, I'm thinking maybe it's some suspension issue. Has anyone ever experienced this issue?

If your dealer did not carefully check the rear springs with the vehicle on the lift, they for sure need to.

Wouldn't a broken spring exhibit more symptoms than a clunk going over a bump? I'd think the car would drive different, and might even sag on that corner.

Yes I did have a noise coming from the right rear suspension when I went over bumps or potholes. I took the tech for a ride with me after figuring out how to duplicate the noise. If I back it up from a tall curb into the street level, I could duplicate the problem. In another words. The right suspension just drops and you can hear the thump. He end up finding a loose bolt on the right rear guide link. He tightened to 40 Nm and I'm problem free now.

This is for a 2018 model but I have to turn this off when I get heavy snow, otherwise as soon as something goes in front of the sensors, they go crazy, they can still be activated via reversing/pressing the button.

I'll bring that to their attention the next time I visit them. Thank you.

The car does have a little vibration when the rear wheel hits any bump. Other than that, I don't feel any other noticeable difference. What I also did was to open the tailgate and bounce each side. The left side settles almost immediately when I stop, but when I try the right side, the car has a slight extra bounce. My gf has a Q5 and I've driven her car and did the same bounce test and I can see and feel the difference. I know the Q5 is different from the SQ5, but it shouldn't be too different, right?

My co-worker told me he went through the same issue as you did. I'll be telling them to check that too. Thank you.

The front strut tower brace on mine was loose where it attached to the firewall but you could tell it was up front.
