Audi Q5 2022 intermittently loses CarPlay connection while driving. Sometimes the music just cuts out for a few seconds but other times it completely drops the phone connection and then picks it back up after a few seconds. This is very reproducible with specific locations. I called Audi support who eventually sent me to the dealership. They installed the latest MMI update but there was not change the problem. I have tried 3 generations of iPhones with no difference.

I am experiencing the same issue. Sometimes it will drop 3 or 4 times in a 10 min drive. Other times it can go an hour or 2 without dropping.

You guys should mention which model phone you have as well as the os.It might help your solve this issue.
My 18 did not have wireless carplay or AA Auto. I am glad they now supply this.

I have this, and it occurs in a particular location on my commute. Chalking it up to some sort of interference but I cannot pinpoint it.

At first it may feel like a step backward but if you try my wired cradle solution, you won't have these issues anymore. Just slide the phone in the cradle with one hand and it stays connected (and charged) for the duration of the ride.

Biggest factor in CarPlay stability and performance is the phone getting too hot. Especially an issue if you wirelessly charge at the same time. If it starts to get hot the CPU starts to get throttled and parts may even get turned off, affecting performance and connection stability. When it happens is your phone pretty hot when you touch it? If so, then that's likely the issue. Battery performance will also suffer as it heats up, further affecting performance as the battery may not deliver enough peak power when needed.

FWIW, CarPlay for me has been most stable in Mercedes vehicles, including my AMG even during heat waves. I largely attribute that to the fact that the center console compartments are climatized, so the phone is actively cooled. I've had issues with CarPlay in pretty much every VAG vehicle I drove so far. Last year alone I drove a Golf 8 and Audi A6 for several weeks in Europe. The latter during the summer heat wave, and CarPlay regularly crapped out on me. In the Golf I had to use wired CarPlay as wireless CarPlay and wireless charging at the same time consistently killed it after about 15-20 minutes. In the A6 I was using wired CarPlay as well, because it didn't have wireless charging, but the center console compartment got too hot and caused it to crap out as well. Had to frequently hold the phone up in front of the AC vent to cool it down until the interior was cool enough. I did European Delivery with my AMG also during a heat wave and never had these issues.

My phone does heat up on a long trip, but this problem is definitely location dependent and in addition to the heat problem. Carplay loses connection every time I pass certain places, including in my own street which is extremely frustrating. Audi have checked it out multiple times, and acknowledge the problem, Some sort of wireless interference here in South Africa they say. They suggest I use a cable which I am not interested in doing. This is on a brand new Audi Q8 which I purchased at the start of 2021. The problem has persisted since then across multiple iPhones and multiple iOS versions - all of them show the same problem. From iPhone X to iPhone 13 Pro - identical problem. My wife's BMW also has wireless carplay - we have not had a disconnect ever on this. Same phones. I am strongly dissuaded from getting another Audi given their inability to resolve it - it reflects some major problems within Audi's MMI systems as far as I'm concerned. It often just loses the connection exactly when I most need it for navigation in some unknown area - then I nearly crash the car trying to get it going again without getting lost.

Same here with 2023 45 TFSI.
Apple CarPlay disconnects occasionally. As suggested I will monitor if it's related to certain locations or not.
iPhone 12 with latest OS.

No problems with Android.
