VIN decoder says my 2014 SQ5 is a Q5
Were the early 2014 SQ5's marked as Q5s?
Dealer is low balling me on a trade in because it is not listed as an SQ5 in the VIN decoder. It's a 3.0T, bigger brakes... SQ5 interior and outside trim.

Try the AudiWorld Forum VIN decoder:
VIN Decoder - AudiWorld Forums
Are you the original owner? If not, I guess someone could have taken the plain 3.0T and tried to convert it to a look-alike SQ5.

Is it an Audi dealer? They don't use decoders. They have a database of their VINs and know what it is. If it's not an Audi dealer they don't know what they are doing, decoders are just a guide and not as good as the information an Audi dealer has access to.

But you don't post the 4th through 10th characters of the VIN, so we can't offer you anything in the way of information.

How much are they offering? I'm curious because my trade in offer on my Q5 TDI was lower than I expected but the market has really cooled off recently.

WA1 - Audi Europe MPV
L - for type 8R, Q5 2.0T Premium Plus
G - 3.0T supercharged
C - ? the code should be A or B, but they probably documented it wrong (C/D is for the Q3; in either case, so you probably do not have rear side airbags?)
FP - model type 8R (B8 Q5/SQ5)
X - check bit
E - model year 2014
But so it seems to be a normal MY14 Q5 3.0T. Meaning it's the detuned 272hp CTUC engine and not the 354hp CTUD engine. You can confirm the engine code on the vehicle identification sticker (in the owner's manual or maintenance manual, also on the sheet metal of the spare tire well.
So that's really what you need to do next. Find the vehicle identification sticker for that VIN, either in the owner's manual or maintenance manual, or in the spare tire well on the sheet metal, and post a pic of it. The PR codes will explain the specifics such as the engine, the brakes, the bumpers, the suspension, etc.
It's probably a VIN documentation error. Because the engine code is for the 3.0T (2.0T would have been F, not G), and a Q5 3.0T would have been D for premium plus, not L.
You really want to find that vehicle identification sticker. That said, the dealership has full access to pull the complete PR codes vehicle identification data document for the VIN. That'll make it obvious what vehicle components were built at the factory.

Go to this AW post.
https://www.audiworld.com/forums/a8-...43984/page120/
Post your VIN there and ask for a factory decoding.
Some posters there have access to the Audi factory decoding and will post a reply to you with a VIN Decoding PDF file. The post is super long (120 pages) so just hit the “Last” button at the bottom of the page to go to the last post in the thread.
Click on a few PDF files to see what VIN info you will get.

Not something new, either. Looks like Audi probably made incorrect VINs for the earliest SQ5s? Audi also messed up the engine code for the earliest MY14 Q5 hybrids as well (using C instead of 8).
Anyway, the PR codes will say exactly how the vehicle was built.
