Looks like Ross-Tech is not going to make the older HEX-USB-CAN wired interfaces work with the newer 2017+, VAG cars, and state a high doubt that they will upgrade it to do so. You will now need to buy the new HEX-NET wifi interface at $400 with limited access to 10 vehicle VINs, or buy the PRO one at $500 with unlimited VINs. Hopefully they will have a trade-in program to reduce costs, if not, that will chase away a lot of buyers and users.

2016Q5

Just picked up a 2016 Q5 and received the cable (yet to use). I should still be okay? I was unaware of the wifi/BT interface...

I have 2016 q5 with the VCDS HEX-USB-CAN model and it works just fine.

@Bob Petruska - yes you are correct that the 14 year old hardware in the HEX-USB+CAN design looks like it may no longer be able to support the newer platforms. Simply put, we are having difficulty making it work around some of the more advanced functions the newer cars support in their diagnostic protocols.

However, you are mistaken about the prices. Ross-Tech has always offered upgrade programs for our registered users wherein Ross-Tech provided a significant discount for a unit that is traded towards the purchase of a more advanced device/system. While the HEX-NET remains in Beta, we are not offering such an upgrade plan. When the product is released from Beta, a plan will be offered.

And you are well aware of our upgrade programs Bob.

To other posters, the 2016 Q5 is fully supported by the HEX-USB+CAN.

I've had my cable for about 9 years and it still works great. People sell them on forums often for about the same price as a new one. Sell your cable and buy the new model.
