TDI Towing capacity

The strange thing is that on the UK website, the 3.0 TDI is rated for 5280 lbs with a 12% gradient hill. The 2.0 TFSI is 4400, same as we have here. So it seems as though the chassis and suspension can handle more. However it is will known that Europe is more liberal with their tow ratings.
From B&O: http://www.bang-olufsen.com/en-CA/ca...ls/audi/SQ,-,5
From Audi UK:http://www.audi.co.uk/new-cars/q5/q5...unication.html
Only Audi UK has B & O with two amplifiers
Only in the UK exist 300mm brake discs on the SQ and S models (in the rest of the world is 330x22mm) http://www.audi.co.uk/new-cars/q5/sq...ng-system.html
Perhaps the UK market has special models of Audi cars (Different brakes, different sound system, different amplifiers..............)

The 5,300lb figure translates to the 2,400kg load limit of the factory fitted tow bar (different from the dealer fitted one you get in the States).
Interestingly the factory tow bar is also rated to 80kg vertical load (or maybe it's 90kg but still...) which is a long way short of the 10% "rule of thumb".
I suspect the reason for the dealer fit tow bar being limited to 2,000kg (4,400lb) is also due to the 10% rule that is used - can you imagine putting 530lb vertical on that thing? The poor Q5's **** would be dragging on the ground!
The other thing is that the factory fit tow bar uses an additional "trailer module" which is the interface box that supports the tow bar electrics and enables the trailer sway function of the ESP. I'm not sure if you get that module when you get the dealer (or port) fitted tow bar. If you don't then I'm not sure you actually get the advertised trailer sway functionality.
This is what the trailer control module looks like:

I am towing 1900 lbs with an SQ5 with no problem at high altitude in the Rockies, steep grades. No problem. I think it depends what altitude and grade you will be encountering. I would not do 4000 lbs here, but at sea level and lesser grades it should be ok. Let us know how it works out for you. What were you towing with before, what was the tow rating, and at what altitude and grade?
