Default Solution for keeping stuff from sliding around in trunk

... found at home depot. I saw these rubber boot mats as I walked in the door. They are $20 each, and two fit side by side perfectly (first picture). Second shows the underside, and third shows the label in case you can't find them at HD. They are nice and tacky (as in not-slippery).

Not for what I put back there - some stuff is 20-30 lbs, I don't think the net will hold it in place.

The cargo net does a very good job of holding heavy objects in place. I have both the cargo rubber mats and the cargo net in my Audi, but your solution is much cheaper.

I had rubber mats once but the odor was too strong, especially if the car sitting in the sun a while. How are your mats?

My worry too. Right now it's the winter, so I don't notice anything. When the sun hits them we'll see if it's a different story.....
