Default Scratched Window Pillars

Anyone else have issues with their gloss black window pillars getting scratched up? I backed into the garage the other day and looked at the wife's Q and noticed that hers were badly scratched up (surface scratches). Any recommendations on correcting?

Yes, those panels show scratches very well. Especially after rubbing them down with the cheap Costco microfiber towels.

What I've found best to polish out the scratches is the same stuff you would use on a helmet faceshield or windscreen. Meguiars #10 or Plastx. Use a soft cotton rag, seems like anything with fibers shows swirls and scratches.

Wow, 207 views and only one response.

Thanks ktmf for the info - I will give one of those products a try.

Thanks for the tip as well. I have these light scratches too and will give it a try.

i saw in some detailing forums that they advised beginners to just hand polish (using fine machine polish) this area instead of using machines.

Yeah, I noticed the same problem with mine. Problem is, you can't see it by camera, you can only see it at a few feet away in sunlight so taking a picture is tough. This is the best I could do, mine is so scratched but its minor stuff, considered plastidipping but I don't want to screw up and seal the windows from opening.

OUCH! Ours are close to that, but not quite that bad. Guess I have some buffing to do!

my q5 has only been washed at the brushless carwash since i got it in Feb. The dealer has washed it at least once after i picked up and I'm sure that's where i got it from. I'll be opting out on the free wash next time.
