Regular gas
Hey all,
So due to the gas shortage that New Jersey is currently going through; the only gasoline grade available was the lowest (87) At the Exxon station by me this morning. Therefore, I had no choice but to use it on my beloved 2012 3.2 Carbon maker Q5. It only has 3500 miles on it and until today I have only used 93 Exxon or Shell premium. I'm thinking of getting some fuel additive to compensate. So this is my question: should I get techron concentrate or the Audi fuel additive ?
Any input would be appreciate it.

Yea, what he said. It won't "hurt" your engine. It just won't make quite as much power (probably not noticeable), and may be slightly down on mileage. Since the choice is not having any gas at all, don't worry about it.

Either additive is fine. We have 56k on our '10 Q and I've regularly used Techron and 90% of the time filled with Shell's V-Power. Can't hurt, it'll keep your fuel gauge, lines and injectors clear if nothing else.

After the first year I said eff it and started buying regular gas. The last two years probably 4 out of 5 tanks I get regular and haven't noticed any performance difference and barely any mpg drop.

Hi guys.
I've been filling up with premium too. But last week's CBC TV's Marketplace ran an episode worth watching.
They asked:
Does more expensive premium gas really make your car perform better?

You be the judge.

Good point. However this seems to be Canada where gas is sold by the liter. I believe there are 3.8 liters to a gallon. And if Canadians are paying .15 more per liter, that comes out to .57 a gallon. And that's for 91 octane.
Here in the U.S. I currently pay .20 more for 93 octane vs. 87 regular. Some places do charge as much as .40 cents more for 93 octane but I fill my S5 at SAMS club and they sell only 87 reg and 93 and 93 is always around .20 more.
If I get 12 gallons of 93 premium at fill-up, extra .20 I pay an extra $2.40.
If I were to get 12 gallons or approx. 46 liters at Canadian prices .57 I would pay an extra $6.84. That's a big hit and difference at every fill up.
Canadians are paying much more for 91 octane than we pay for 93.
They should also have used a Bimmer, MB or Audi, as these manufacturers recommend 91+ whereas a Chevy Cruze recommends 87.
Someone chime in and say I'm full of bull...
