BTW...Audi in Mpls has an A6 on the floor with a $75K price tag. In additional to the many options it is in a "special order" very nice dark green paint. Price appears about $10K higher than any of their many other A6s.

While wife's soft spot is bright red...I really like a rich dark green...but not $75K
My sales guy here also told that you can have your car painted to any color of your choice for $4k. Who would do that? Some people would, probably.

My SQ5. Glad I waited the 7 1/2 months. It really stands out and I like that.

Wife really wanted a red one, but when she saw Volcano Red in the showroom, she quickly backed off from it. It was just a very flashy looking red. Had a darker red been available (without having to go through Audi Exclusive to get it), she probably would have gotten in.
There was originally a beautiful darker metallic red called Garnet red pearl - our prev A6 and current A7 has it, but I think it's been discontinued from almost all the models in the last couple of years. It's definitely a rare color, I've seen one Q5 with it ever. I also think it looks much better on sedans.k

Edit: here's a pic of a used garnet Q5.

The actual garnet red has a lot of sparkle and changes color based on light. Here's a pic of our garnet A7.

I have always been a fan of red. Bought a 2009 Q7 in Garnett and LOVED the paint. As a hobbyist detailer I really enjoyed playing with that paint and got some dazzling shine out of it. When it was time to move on, I actually ordered the Volcano Red SQ5, but I had been stalking YouTube videos and Google images of a Misano Red example. The day after I made the order for the Volcano, I made a comment to my sales person that the red Q5 on the lot looked orange from certain angles. He said, "That's Volcano Red" and I almost passed out. I thought he was kidding. Five minutes later we changed the order to Estoril and I haven't looked back. That said, I bet a SQ5 in Volcano Red would have been fine, but I have never laid eyes on one.

I don't think the lack of bold color is unique to Audi, as most manufacturers have shifted toward muted colors, especially on SUVs with larger painted surface areas. My wife was interested in a Scuba Blue Q7, which is pretty bold compared to most SUVs these days, and the dealer was VERY motivated to sell as he had been sitting on 2 of them for quite some time. I'm sure it varies regionally, but here in conservative New England, people probably intially thought 50 shades of gray was about cars.
