question for DIY Oil Changers...
For those of you that are DIY oil changers (in particular TDI)..How do you drain your oil?
Drop the skid plate to get to the drain plug, or use an evacuator from the dipstick hole?
Sounds like Audi 'recommends' replacing the drain plug at each oil change..meaning added cost…Seems odd to me..Gasket yes..plug..not so sure it's needed?

Nice. The MityVac has served me well. But this is something similar and looks of better quality than MityVac.

I picked up this Mityvac unit and have used it with my air compressor for 3 years. MUCH easier than getting under the vehicle, removing the belly pan, etc. I've been very impressed:

I also recommend the Mityvac but if you go with an evacuator-type setup, make sure you get a big enough capacity to hold all of the oil so you don't have stop halfway through and dump the oil.
I use the Mityvac 7201 which also dispenses fluid back out.

I just changed the oil on my 2013 3.0T Q5 on Tuesday. I dropped the shield and used gravity. I re-used the drain plug and it seems to be fine.
I re-filled with 6.5 qts but it still needed another 0.5qt to fill-it up.
