Q5 problems
Hey guys.. first post here..
after 8 years with excellent VW Rabbit 2007 I have decided to upgrade and got a 2015 Q5 2.0 TFSI..
Few bad things that stood out for me after few weeks driving it are:
a) MPG is horrible.. paying for premium gas I am still only about to get about 500km (350 miles) city driving.. is this normal?
b) i have 18 inch wheels.. and driving in Montreal with potholes around - I get thrown around like someone is beating me up.. is that normal?
3) when pressing gas pedal - it takes about a second or so before car responds.. is that normal?
I never got those issues with my cheap VW Rabbit..
Thanks.. its only 3 year lease.. but still wondering if i made the right choice getting the car..

Alex, welcome aboard! We have the same vehicle and seem to do about 9.6L/100km as an average. I think that's pretty decent considering the weight of the vehicle.
(I don't quote fuel consumption as a range - it's semi-meaningless.) I suspect ours would always do 400 miles in the city. Maybe 550 miles with highway driving??
Ours has the 18" Continental tires on it. Our road surfaces are poor. I find it rides like a Cadillac. Certainly not harsh in any way.
My '11 A4 had really bad powertrain lag. I don't notice it at all in the Q5.

A couple of things...
The car weighs about 4400 lbs. That's quite a bit! - we get about 18 mpg all local driving, 26 mpg on trips.
The car isn't sprung for a boulevard ride. However, it handles great and is wonderful on the highway.
It's a turbo, so there is some turbo lag. It is very slight and having an 8 speed transmission helps a lot.
We also own a VW Eos with the same engine and the six speed DSG. It weights about 3500# but gets about the same mileage driving around town. It also doesn't ride as well or handle as well, either.

whoa.. quick feedback.. i guess i am nostalgic for my VW and monthly lease payments do not help..
ok so got this:
1) 400 miles per tank is decent - nothing to worry about;
2) you say u dont feel like its harsh in any way.. when you go over pothole = do you feel the pothole or not? noone feels like being thrown around? maybe bigger tires 19" / 20" will help smooth things? can we fit 19"/20" on Q5 2.0?
3) yeah a bit annoying when you overtake cars on a highway.. cause u need to press the pedal and wait slightly for it to pick up.. in my manual VW you feel the gas medal instantly....

Alex, it's an SUV-like vehicle. It's high center of gravity and there's a lot of head toss.
Potholes are handled well by this vehicle. There is no harshness.
Going to a larger diameter wheel is NOT going to help this issue.
