Q5 3.0 crankcase breather valve cost
So idle noise.. took car in 55k miles shop says without a moment thought crankcase breather valve.. oh you have turbo... That will be about $1400 to fix since they need to remove the turbo.
1. Really that much??
2. Seems like this is common issue, makes me want to not choose Audi in the future.

Ran into this comment searching for my issue. Brought my 2015 Q5 3.0 into Audi service because of a whistling sound coming from the engine. They said they have to replace the breather valve and it would cost $2200 + tax, higher price because they have to remove the supercharger. Same as you, but almost $1000 more. Did you end up taking your Q5 to Audi or an indy to fix?

That is a post from 2018 and the only post that person ever made. 99% they are long gone.........
That is correct though, supercharger has to come off of the 3.0T to get to the PCV. You can buy the exact same part and have an indy do the job for half of what your dealer is quoting you or less. www.audiusaparts.com

2016 Q5 3.0T Breather Valve Repair
70k miles on my 2016 Q5 3.0.
Audi quoted me $2591 before tax, offering a 10% discount.
I feel like this is a factory defect if so many drivers are experiencing it. Especially at 70k miles? Problems like this shouldn't happen till 100k...
Should I have the dealer do the work?

In all fairness, it's not a factory defect. Many modern engines use a AOS/PCV (technically it's not a breather; a breather is an atmospheric vent) and can start to fail at 50K or even earlier due to the diaphragm. At 70K the PCV on my 2.0T was ready to be replaced. The problem with the 3.0T is getting to it. If you have the dealer do it you will just pay twice as much as you need to but if it needs to be done I would not wait on it.

"Back in the olden days" (i.e. 1980's) replacing (or at least cleaning so the check valve functioned) the PCV valve was a common maintenance item. It was hanging out in an easy location to replace, and the valve itself often cost less than $20.
But nowadays, in their wisdom, Audi has buried it deep under the supercharger where it is difficult to get at. It's a common problem of "we want to put all these thingies on the car, how do we package it?" and it's more important to to have nice features to sell the car than make it easy to service. Just be happy you don't have to replace the A/C compressor on a V8 or a starter on the V10.
I'm not going to stop you from pursuing this as a defect, but I doubt you'll get much traction.
The other question is whether you need to replace it. Many of us are driving around with a soft-code indicating poor PCV performance but it's not actually triggering a light or affecting oil consumption. Yet.

I just had my PCV replaced on 2012 3.2. Started with whining noise under load of 23-28 mph then went away after about a month and I noticed oil leaking under the intake.
I hardly drive the Q5 and only have little over 18k on the clock, so its not really due to milage. There is a gasget in the PCV which starts to desintegrate with time. Stealership charged 1650.
Seems like a common issue but doubt Audi would ever fess up and have a recall since its not a safety issue.

It's a maintenance item just like on every other engine. Unclear what you want Audi to "fess up" to or recall based on what reason? The diaphragm will deteriorate over time, especially on the older version like you have. Porsche had the exact same issue. I suppose you also want Audi to replace your brakes free of charge too? Where do you draw the line.........
