Obviously no Irish blood in me!
So I purchase (and pay in full) my SQ5 on 28th March 2014 after about 2 months of toing and froing to make sure it is the exact spec I want it. Thats over 8 months now! I get the call yesterday that I can collect the car tomorrow....the day I am due to go away for a week! Aaaarrrghhh!

I expect that the same could happen to me when mine comes in January (expected by dealer). I'm going to be out of town for a week and a half at the end of January....
But look at it this way, if you picked it up today, and leave tomorrow, you'll have to think about it sitting in YOUR garage and not being driven by you. Seems slightly better to have it sit protected at the dealer.

I got the call to schedule my pickup when I was in the delivery room, needless to say, I had to wait a few days on it as well. My wife didn't think I should just drop everything and go get it.
