i had to get a new battery.
it cost C$350 from audi and and had to pay C$160 for install and coding

why to they need coding for a battery?
what does it do?

I confirm but say 10 mins job with battery installation. Say 30 mins with handling.

I charge 80 usd per 5 mins
fair no??? Not a joke I know I am not a lawyer so unfortunately my rates are employee rates in eng.

I think they charge standard time for battery, per Audi recommendations. Not sure though

Again we said in the past if you wish to save in the future on maintenance you need to buy a VCDs 3 vin diagnostic.

Audis actively manage12V battery health. The software needs to know at least that the battery (or 2 batteries, in my case) have been changed, which means one at least has to change the battery serial number registered in the vehicle software. Otherwise, the battery management system wlll continue to treat the new batteries like the old ones, which can cause premature failure of the new battery.

In principle, one needs to change the vendor name if the new battery comes from a different source. Audi apparently has different charging schemes for different brands of batteries. When I changed mine, the battery manufacturer didn't change, so I just changed the serial numbers registered in the vehicle.

Hypothetically, if I changed the battery with the identical brand / type (currently has a big Varta in there)

I shouldn't need to change anything?

even if you change the existing battery out with the exact same one, you still need to use VCDS (or whatever else) to "let the ECU know" there's a new battery you have put in

people make a big deal of this but like spijun says it is 2 mins. it's the exact same as a regular battery and then at the end you use VCDS for 2 minutes or less. really no big deal at all compared to a traditional battery swap

I helped a close friend with this the other day. I own a VAGCOM cable and used it to code his battery, it was a 15 minutes thing because I needed 10 minutes to wake up a dead laptop 🤣 really easy and straightforward. He bought the battery and swapped it using a maintainer, I came later on and did the coding, he saved ~$200 which he promised to return in the form of a BBQ once the pandemic is over.

Now you have one vin less if you have the newest VCDs 3 vin type or 2/3 of your VCDs sale value is now depreciated. 1 vin to go or 1 last close friend remains. 🤪 for future aid.

Try coding a larger battery or a battery with different specs. You need ETKA.

Yeah, but this guy is like a brother, worst case would be upgrading to 10 VIN in the future 🤣
