Mud guards?

For those who have them, do they provide any protection? Aesthetics?

I had some installed and my car now stays cleaner. Looks good too.

I have the OEM ones on mine (I installed them), and I put them on to stop the front wheels from throwing mud up on the sides of the vehicle (Ibis White). I like them, and so does my wife.
