While I love my deezles, (on my 3rd Excursion diesel now) one thing to consider is that when I got my first diesel, fuel was 20 cents or more cheaper than regular in the states,
now it's 20 cents or more expensive than PREMIUM !!!
which makes NO sense since in the distillate process diesel fuels and heating oil are the first extracts and the least processed !

Thanks for the clarification. I'm convinced we'll see the 2.0TDI or 3.0TDI for the 2013 model and I'll be the first in line to order.

We've been satisfied with the recorded MPG so far. Our Q has 2500 miles and our last 2 tanks have been 21.7 mpg. It went from 16.3, 17.5, 19.2, then 21.7 mpg for the last two fill-ups. This was all recorded by calculating manually and not through the MMI. I would say 75% city / 25% highway driving.

I'm a bit disappointed in my MPG as well.
My Q5 2.0T with 12.7K miles has been averaging 21.7 MPG overall, according to my Fuelly tracking. That's with a majority highway miles and gentle usage, so I think it should be doing better than the EPA's 22MPG combined rating.
I drive my Volvo C30 the same way, and it gets nearly 25MPG versus the EPA's 23MPG combined rating.
The Q5's MPG gauge seems to be highly optimistic. I'll cruise on the highway for a while, and it will indicate high 30's, but then the cold, hard reality at the pump is low 20's. City driving seems to take a huge toll, likely due to a small turbo lugging around over two tons.
Seems like the EPA is hugely optimistic with that 20 MPG City rating.
My best tank is only 25.8 MPG with nearly 100% highway.
