The worst we can manage out of our Q5 is 21mpg. We regularly get 23mpg and my best on a highway trip is 27mpg. BTW, these are calculated MPGs, not the trip computer which is always about 1.5mpg higher then what i really get. I'm very happy with the 2.0T. 17K miles now.

My heavy foot on the 2T nets us around 21 mpg primarily city. With my wife driving, it gets around 25 city. A long highway trip got us around 30. Not too shabby. I hear a perf flash might actually see a slight improvement from that and dominate in power.

In town we consistently return 20.5mpg at an average speed of 13mph So it is seriously slow peak hour driving.

Last weekend the Q5 averaged 27mpg towing my dirt bike on a trailer on country roads and up into the mountains.

Open highway driving will return anywhere from 31.5mpg and up to 36mpg depending on conditions.

Oh yeah... we have the 3.0TDI.

We have the 3.2 with 15k miles and get around 28mpg highway, 20 city, and 24 mixed. The mpg really shot up after we passed the 8k mark so I guess that's how long it took ours to break-in. The above numbers include occasional "spirited" driving so I'm quite happy we didn't hold out for the 2.0T. Also note those figures drop when the wife drives who doesn't know anything other than "spirited." Guess that's why she still drives the A4.

We live on the edge of Philly, so we do some city driving, but also some highway driving. Our old V6 Q5 got around 17 MPG doing the same type of driving.
Great example of "it depends how you drive". I also have a 2011 A4 (Avant 2.0T) with 8 speed. It's about a year old and has 7400 miles. But I get a consistent 24-25 MPG in mixed driving and it touches 30 in highway-only. Manual calculations at fill-up.

However...and this is my point... I use S only occasionally in town and am otherwise usually in D. I'm a former hybrid (04 Prius and 08 Escape) owner and have probably trained myself to drive for mileage much of the time. Don't get me wrong, I open it up and exceed the speed limit regularly, especially when merging onto a highway. But otherwise I'm cruising and coasting a lot, taking advantage of the fuel shutoff.

Once I'm in the mountains and canyons outside Denver, it's sometimes a different story. I've tested the cars limits a few times and been pretty impressed. Awesome car.

This is from a 2.0T 8speed with 8k miles.

On highway runs I consistently get 29-30MPG over a 25-30 mile distance. That translates to roughly 27-28 calculated. As the distance increases the MPGs keep going up till the computer reads about 31-32.

The city gas mileage has been staying between 19-20 calculated.

my 3.0t A6 with 1600 miles on the clock with mostly spirited driving is yielding between 27-29mpg, if i take it easy ill hit 33.

and before someone steps in and says the OBC with AVG MPG is off this is calculated using fuelly and my own math skills.

My 6spd Mini clubman S (turbo) is driven very hard will not go below 35mpg. easy driving on highway going 70mph and i will easily break 44mpg take that you stupid hybrids with your environment killing batteries
Sorry guys, I hope no one is using the above post as part of their decision-making. Unless he's always driving downhill... Just use common sense, your basic understanding of physics, and it'll serve you far better.

Sorry to call you out, B, but I get to do that since you get to post things like this. Sharing the internet my friend.

I have the 2.0TDI S-tronic with 26k miles

Don't have quite 5K on mine yet. Overall, our 2.oT gets 2 to 3 mpg better than our old 07 X3. In town, wife with heavy foot gets 18/`19 mpg. straight hwy crusing from Raleigh to Wilmington at indicated 80 mpg (real 80 is indicated 83 mph)I get almost 26 by in car puter which is about 24 based on previous real calculations. We got almost 30 mpg calculated doing a slow 62-65 mph trip on regular road (421) to Wilmington.
