MPG dissapointment
Was not overly impressed with the wife's avg mpg in her Q5...
(NOT that I really care about it as my suv is a Ford Excursion !)
but 17 to 19 avg seemed low....
I think I found out why the other day !
99.999% of the time we go anywhere together I drive and
until we got the Q we always went in my Ex...
the other day she drove her Q and a jackrabbit would be proud
I remembered how she liked her previous 2 seaters, and how she drove then, but thought she had mellowed ! NOPE !
She 'excercises' the turbo and the brakes a LOT - is even in S mode most of the time...
but glad she enjoys it

There's no doubt that the 2.0T can suck with the best of them. A little aggressive driving can really drive those MPG values down ! It's a thirsty powerplant when using all the power.

I was just thinking 'Spirited Driver' when the word 'goer' got stuck in my head

I'm at 1000 miles and haven't cracked 20 mpg on any fill-ups yet. I assume it'll get a little better as it breaks in more.
I wasn't that spirited a driver during the break in but I do drive mostly city driving.

I have found with city-only driving and in relatively short distances, the 2.0T gets nothing more than 19MPG-20MPG with a light foot. The MPG improves significantly once you're on the highway. I guess when you're just crusing and staying out of boost you'll see the most MPGs.

I know it's not a Q5, but our A4 with the 2.0T and 8 speed tranny only just broke 20 MPG after we hit about 11k miles. Up until then, it always hung around 19 MPGs. We live on the edge of Philly, so we do some city driving, but also some highway driving. Our old V6 Q5 got around 17 MPG doing the same type of driving.

While British humor usually escapes me (i.e. not funny usually!), that one had me chuckling !
That guy has MUCH more patience than I
there would have been a fight about the second sentence from that obnoxious 'friendly' guy

I average around 24mpg with the 3.2L (approx 70% back country roads/hwy). I've seen as high as 28mpg avg from hwy only, and of course city only I wouldn't bother.
Here's to hoping for the TDI for the 2013 MY.

When i had my q5 3.2 i would consistently get 26-28 and on longer trips i would consistently break 31mpg. Spirited driving in Sport mode would give me consistent readings of 23mpg. It is no doubt the 3.2 is much more fuel efficient then the 2.0T
my 3.0t A6 with 1600 miles on the clock with mostly spirited driving is yielding between 27-29mpg, if i take it easy ill hit 33.
and before someone steps in and says the OBC with AVG MPG is off this is calculated using fuelly and my own math skills.
My 6spd Mini clubman S (turbo) is driven very hard will not go below 35mpg. easy driving on highway going 70mph and i will easily break 44mpg take that you stupid hybrids with your environment killing batteries

I keep thinking how great my MPG's are! With 4k miles, I've been getting 23-24 mixed city driving...manually checked. I'm sure I could get up to 30mpg on a trip! It seems like I hardly ever have to go to the gas station (biggish tank) and while I do like to get up to the speed limit quite quickly...I rarely drive more than 5 miles over the speed limit.
Speeding tickets are $$, and I really have to be aware of my speed after driving in Germany for 2 years!
