Default Motor Oil Extractor

Hi,

I want to buy one of these:

Mityvac 7300 PneumatiVac Air-Operated Fluid Evacuator

For my snowblower, lawnmower, and dirtbike.

What do you guys think about me using it to change the Oil on my 2012 Q5? I would like to change the oil every 5,000 miles. Think this would be a good method? Seems pretty darned easy.

Thank You

Purchased that exact unit from Amazon and used it to change oil on my Q5 two weeks ago. The unit worked amazingly well! It was almost too easy.

Wow! Thank you for that info. I read the reviews for this product on Amazon, and folks say the extractor removes all of the oil (the reviewers removed the oil drain plug to check).

Have you found any difficulty getting the siphon / hose to the bottom of the crankcase?

Playa, the Pela pump is probably the most popular:

lol i have no clue why they would use that technique. i dont think they notice that dirt/rust or debris will be left on the bottom of the oil pan.

I just changed the oil on my 2010 3.2L Q5 using the traditional method via the drain plug. It was a snap, certainly no harder than any other vehicle I have had. In fact, maybe it was easier because the filter is up-top and due to the fact that the vehicle has more ground clearance you don't even have to jack it up.

IMO I see no reason to use an oil extractor. Just another thing to clean-up and take up space in the garage.

Yes, that too. I would want to get ALL the crap out & not just what was sucked out. Plus like someone posted all the mess & clean up. I'm glad someone else sees the light.

Good point - I also want to point out that some cars are specifically told that they are not to be used with this process (i.e. the RS4).

Also when one is under the car it is easy to inspect for worn/damaged parts or fluid leaks.
