Lexus vs Audi reliability ?

Thanks everyone for their comments. Of course it will come with the 4 yr/50k new car warranty with "valet" service (they come get it and leave loaner when it needs servicing?). I usually only drive 12k/yr and keep cars 3 - 4 years so I will be covered under warranty for the time I own it. I am extremely busy and do not have time to deal with car issues. Has anyone used the new car "valet" service - do they really make it that easy - you just call them and they come get the car and leave a loaner?

currently have an RX450h 2010 also, and SQ5 was my first German car. I'd say Audi bests Lexus in every way, reliability as well. Not that Lexus is not great , I like them both, but Audi ist SOLID, Santa? 125k on the Lex, 55k on the SQ5. Lexus had few recalls, plus front shocks went bad(leaking)Rx issue. Otherwise, very reliable.
hope tthgat helps,
Bob

Audi reliability has come a long way. My first Audi, a 2001 S4, was constantly at the dealer for random repairs (front seat loose, random electronics failing, musty smell from the A/C, etc). I moved on to a 2006 Lexus IS350 which was entirely trouble free for 9 years. I took the plunge back to Audi with our 2015 SQ5 and that has been bulletproof so far besides a couple of preventative recalls. The Consumer Reports numbers seem to back up the improved reliability for Audi.
If you're only keeping the car while under warranty, I think you'll be fine with the Audi and will definitely enjoy the driving experience much more. That being said, the 2018 Q5 is a new model in a new factory, so there will undoubtedly be teething problems. That may only equate to a couple of more visits to the dealer over the time period you own it though.
And Lexus isn't always bulletproof either. My parents have owned three different Lexus vehicles (two RXs and one ES), and two were virtually indestructible despite maintenance neglect, but the third ended up being traded in when the transmission failed.

How can they be prone to problems when they haven't been out long and no track record yet?

Audi vs. Lexus
My Audi dealer in Sylvania, Ohio has been outstanding in service dealings. They will pick up my car and drop off a loaner if I decide to do that. I usually drop off my car and pick up the loaner at the dealership. Leave a Q5 and get a newer Q5 for a loaner. Hard to beat.

I can speak on behalf of my family. My mother owns a GX 4 something lexus SUV. Her car has been great. About 10 years old going on 310,000 miles. It still drives very well, and she has had no major problems.
I drive a 2010 Q5. I have 204,000 miles on my car. Outside of regular maintenance, there have been very few problems. The only things I can think of beyond maitenance and warranty were the retractable headliner screen, and electronic door locks that went out. I still love my car and find it hard to find something that I like all that much better than what I have. I would buy another in an instant.

how has your experience with the Q5 been? I’m in the sam3 boat you were in. Looking to replace wife’s 2006 RX 400h (almost 200000 miles on it) and are trying to decide on whether to get a 2019 nx (just north of 40000 grand with premier package and Navi) or the Q5 premium plus. My biggest worry is the reliability of these new Q5s
