Intelligent key sensitivity/problem?
Hey all. I have a question/qualm. I have a '14 Q5 Premium Plus with the intelligent key.
Since its winter and all, I'm currently wearing a fairly big down jacket. When i go to the open my car, it doesn't register and doesn't unlock. I would attempt this a few times and fail. But when i put my hand in my jacket pocket and physically touching the key, it works flawlessly. This goes for everything, locking, unlocking, and starting the car. At times it would say 'No key identified', until i am touching the key, then i would start. I did get the "Is the key in the car?" message at times but rarely. i tried having it in my jean pocket, but its a hit or miss at times.
Is this normal or is it something i should worry about and notify the dealer.

Hi Jack -
I had the identical trouble, and it turned out to be proximity to my cell phone (same pocket). Do a search to find some threads on the topic.
Try it both with and without the cell phone on your person.
Also, note that the car "shuts down" some systems over a few days to save power. So sometimes my car requires a "pull" on the handle before it senses the key, after not driving for 3-4 days.

hmm… my cell phone is in my left pocket and the key is in my left pocket.. ill try it without my cell phone one of these days to test it out.
I don't think its power saving/shut down item. One time i parked and locked the car and went to run an errand. 15 mins later and it still did it.
ill search around and see if i find anything. I did install a new battery thinking it would be it, but its not.. oh wells.. intelligent. right..
