Default How many miles before you.........

Replaced the tires.
did a brake job

on your q5.

Mine is an 11 with 31K mi and I will be taking a 7,000 mi trip in the spring. I am planning ahead and wonder whether I will have to get the work done. Right now, the tires and brake look good.

I have a 12 with 35,500 miles on it... my lease is up in November... I haven't needed brakes yet, but my tires are close to needing to be replaced. If I was keeping I would switch them now.

In your case of a 7,000 mile road trip... If it were me, I would put new tires (since you have 31k on it now) at least and I would get my brakes checked to see how much pad I have left. But you could always do the work during your road trip.

Since everyone drives differently and tire tread life varies among brands and models, the only way to know if tires need replacing is a tread measurement. In most locales, the legal minimum for worn tires is 2/10" tread while most recommend replacing at 4/10" or less. You can pick up an inexpensive tread gauge for under $10.
Tests show tire performance drops as tread is worn from day one so grip and handling on anything below 4/10" is much less than new. If you're at 4/10" or less, with a long trip ahead, soon would be a good time to replace them.

As to brakes, your dealer can measure the pads at your 35K mile service which you should have done before your trip.

You said your trip is in the spring which is over 6 months away. I'm guessing it will be time to do them both after winter since you will most likely have about 43k miles by the time you get back from your trip (31k now plus 5k miles in the fall and winter plus 7k on the trip).

Our 2011 has 63k miles and I've done both front and rear brakes once.
We use winter wheels so the original tires still have another 5k on them.

If it was me, I would wait for the brake warning light to come on. If it happens during your trip, I am sure there would be an Audi dealer along the way to replace the pads. Call ahead to the dealer that they can accomodate and at worst a 2 to 3 hour interruption in your 7,000 mile trip.

I just don't believe in dealers replacing pads proactively. It just brings on more expense.

FWIW. Enjoy.
