Do I have an oil consumption problem?

My take on why prior 2.0T's used oil....
A quart per 1000 is a real pain in the butt and shouldn't happen with today's technology. 1000 miles happens real fast. Seems like you are always adding oil and having to fret about it.
Not to rub it in, but our 2013 3.0 used no detectable amount of oil in the first 5000 miles. So, it can be done. A quart per 1000 just doesn't seem right to me.
Best of luck. Hope things turn out well for you.

Thanks folks! (Hopefully I don't have to reopen this thread again after a few thousand miles )
Thank you Bob, for the informative write up. I wish I have seen this before breaking in mine. I may not have the gut to "drive it like I stole it", but I certainly would have done much more accelerating and decelerating had I understood how things work inside the engine.

I have the exact problem as yours, and it is worse.....
Hi, 81Coupe,
Mine new 2013 Q5 was made on Feburary-March 2013 in Germany. it is Q5 2.0 quartto, before $5000 miles I have two times oil consumption lights on, each time it is within 1800-2000 miles, very unusal. The dealer said it is still break-in period, no worry, however after $5000 mile service, the third time oil is completed consumed and lights on less than 1800 miles, and this time they are serious to diagnostic the issue, and just few days ago, I send the car to the dealer as part of the procedure, they told me it fails the engine oil test, and what the bad news is that they need to replace the whole engine. That worries me a lot. Think this, paid lots of money to buy a new car with engine problem (only about 7500 miles), with a new engine repalcement, the car facts will have all these records, the car may automatically depreciate the value due to the replaced engine(not assembled in orignal manufacturer). Maybe hard to resell in future. I am not sure what options I have here(any suggestions form anyone???), I am in Georgia, we do have lemon law here, but I don't know if it applies to this case.
Feel very frustrated now.
Thanks,
HT

Mine is the same 2.0T Q5 as yours, built just a little later, late March 2013. My car's track record seems to be a little better than yours, though not by much. I brought the car to the dealer around 2300 miles, before the oil lamp lights up. As expected, they refilled it and told me not to worry. Now 1400 miles later, the oil lamp seems on track to turn on some time before the 5000 mile service. I'll keep the board informed as to whether the consumption tapers off, or not.
I will be posting at your thread about this issue. Just so all the discussion are in one place, for posterity

Yikes! Sorry, HT, for what's happening with your car.

I have a 2013 A4 2.0T Quattro 8sp Tip.
- By the time I got to 8000km (First Service), Oil level less than half
- At 12000km (4000km later), Oil level was down 1/3
- I changed the oil and filter out at 12000km with Motul 8100 X-Cess and OEM Filter
- Now at 16000km, Oil still reads FULL
This is with 90% stop & go city traffic.
Maybe try using another brand of oil. My car seems to consume oil when using Castrol, but not for Motul. I also noticed a less 'metallic' noise when accelerating with the Motul oil.
