Center Console Organizer - 2014 Q5 TDI
Needed to have a place to throw coins and miscellaneous small items, and couldn't find any aftermarket console organizers for the 2014 Q5 TDI.
So I put together a center console organizer, giving me 3 layers of compartments along with a full depth section. Used a wooden cigar box I had, along with buying a plastic tray from The Container Store.
The cigar box fit perfectly, and used the lid the cut up the smaller pieces needed. The plastic tray has angled sides so it drops in/lifts out easily without getting stuck. The tray's rubberized inside floor keeps things from rattling and making noise. This combo has been quiet and doesn't rattle.
The pics are pretty straightforward, though here are a few pointers.
- Bottom divider is from the lid, full length, and the width is about 2 inches. That just drops into one of the CD/jewel case slots.
- The nub super-glued on the cigar bottom is also from the lid; about 1/2" x 1". The nub keeps the box from sideways movement.
- I've included 2 pics of different cigar boxes with the same dimensions to assist hunting them down. Most tobacco shops will have empty ones for free or a few bucks.
Enjoy!

Thanks!
Neat idea & innovative engineering. Personally having loose coins rattle around would drive me nuts. I've always reverted to a coin pouch that is small in size and eliminates noise.
For the life of me, I can't understand the CD jewel slots. Who has CD's anymore? I guess many still do. My only gripe regarding storage is the small sunglass holder. It does not hold bigger glasses well and is a bit difficult to manipulate.
Our other vehicle is an X3. I prefer the centre arm rest console as the place to plug in an iPod. Glove box not as convenient.
