Default Bluetooth contacts driving me nuts. Please help

When I pair my phone with bluetooth, it imports the phonebook contact list. It treats each entry in each contact as a separate contact. So if John Smith has mobile, home, and business numbers, he shows up three times, This means the voice dial doesn't work (where you say, dial John Smith, cell). If I say John Smith, it brings up all three names...each with a mobile phone symbol.. and I have to pick randomly. When I pick one, I'll see it is mobile or home etc. I thought I would have to live with this until one day, all of a sudden it seemed, the problem fixed itself.

When fixed, it worked perfectly. There was one contact with three subnumbers each with the appropriate symbol. I could voice dial because when I said John Smith, there was only one to choose. I could say John Smith Cell and it would dial etc. I was now liking my car again. Major Major improvement. Starting yesterday, the dream ended. After months of working correctly, it went back to the multiple entries per person. I have no idea what changed. I have paired and repaired. I have deleted the device etc.

I am at my wits end. Any thoughts or suggestions? Now that I know the Audi can do this correctly, I am obsessed with getting it to work again.

BTW, I have the Android Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket.

The bad part I get is if a contact has a phone number and an email listed, you say a name and it gives you the person twice. It's a shot in the dark whether line 1 is a phone number or email address.

As long as I get into the right category (phone), then if there are multiple numbers (cell, work, home) it has the correct symbols on there.

I think it adds a ton of extra names also because I have my FB contacts linked to the gmail contacts, so they show up multiple times.

It is rather annoying.

"When I pair my phone with bluetooth, it imports the phonebook contact list."

How many contacts did it import? This import happened to me too when I paired my phone except my phone had my work (employers) phone directory in it with over 700 entries - but I only want a half dozen personal numbers in there - does anyone know how to bulk delete all of the contacts rather than one at a time which is the only delete function I can find in there?

My phone shows all the numbers just like you say - with no idea if it is a mobile home etc. I scroll on the display on the dash and no way to tell what number it is till I select it and it starts to dial. I suspect we need a update to the software. BTW My RS4 does not do this - it tells me what each listing is.

My 2012 3.2 does not do that. Phone numbers are grouped by contact. Mine was delivered in May; and I have an iPhone 4. This might be a software problem with the car or a phone-specific issue.
