Default Added Grocery Hooks to Cargo Area

Over in the A3/S3 8V Forum, someone found on Alibaba OEM grocery hooks for the trunk at a real good price. I had added an OEM grocery hook to my S3 so I had on both sides of truck. Knowing these things are really handy, and the plastic hooks on the side of the Q5 cargo area are too far back and to the side, I ordered two of the hooks for $20 with shipping.

This is the link over at the A3/S3 forum.

Here are pictures of my installation. It does involve drilling and mounting the hardware but IMHO they look good. I tried to "pop-rivet" the hooks onto the cargo cover, but didn't hold well. Ended up using "binding posts" from my local Ace Hardware. Hope you like.

Neat idea.

BTW, did you guys see the cargo blocks that VW has available? They work on Audi's fabric flooring, too.

However, if you have a plastic trunk mat, then you'd have to add some velcro strips to make them work.

Great idea indeed. Amazon.com has the Alibaba hooks as well at $9.25/piece; search for Eathtek New Cargo Bag Hook Hanger Holder.

Default Plastic hooks above wheel wells

Does anybody know the purpose of the plastic hooks Dennis mentioned which are mounted just above the wheel wells on the sides of the cargo area? They are visible in the first photo. They seem too flimsy to be intended to hold a grocery bag.

For any lightly filled plastic bag I would imagine. Perhaps not for a bag of tinned produce but rather potato chips!

any creaking from the cover after using the grocery hooks? thought about installing the hooks a while back but after reading about noisy cargo covers, hesitated about installing.

I use them all the time to hold my plastic grocery bags, when I forget my reusable ones. I've never hesitated using them to hold milk, cans, etc. They are quite strong. The only problem is they are so far back, so I ordered some of these grocery hooks and will be installing them.
