Has anyone had any success getting some type of aftermarket Apple CarPlay integration installed on a 2016 Q5 Prem Plus?

the following enables CarPlay in few Audi models but not sure if it applies to Q5s.
Wireless CarPlay:

check/tick the adaptation Channels in 5F: Vehicle Configuration - Apple_DIO_Wireless - Vehicle Configuration - Google_GAL_Wireless (presumably Android Auto) - Vehicle Configuration - wlan_5ghz_switch

Wireless CarPlay:Anpassungskanäle im 5F: -Fahrzeugkonfiguration-Apple_DIO_Wireless -Fahrzeugkonfiguration-Google_GAL_Wireless (vermutlich Android Auto) -Fahrzeugkonfiguration-wlan_5ghz_switch

if the above does not work you have 2 options:
1 buy the CarPlay interface box for mmi3g, thus you keep your existing screen
2 change Audi screen to an android multimedia screen.

It is possible in software but not in B8 (Typ 8R): 2008–2016
This is a forum for the first generation Q5 / SQ5 8R so it's useless because the hardware doesn't support it

It is possible in models that have MIB2 / MIB2+ systems

Do these systems allow you to have Waze on the screen but listening to the normal DAB radio or is it either standard MMI on screen and audio OR CarPlay for screen and Audio?

Simultaneous listening would be a function of Carplay and in my version of Carplay on my Pioneer radio allows this. You would have to ask the manufacturer of the radio for confirmation.

With CarPlay interface you can listen to CarPlay radio apps such as Spotify and have at the same time CarPlay navigation. In this case no Audi radio audio is possible with CarPlay Navigation audio at the same time

To listen to radio stations from radio and at the same time have Navigation audio you need to have the android touch screen (without CarPlay connection)

One of the advantages of having the android touchscreen is this. With this method you can also connect a CarPlay Usb wireless dongle and have the best of both worlds.

Depends on your needs and budget. If you want full spectrum of options it is an android screen and a CarPlay wireless dongle.

you don’t need an android with 4g SIM card. Don’t spend more to buy this feature. Hotspot your phone.

Generally I don't need the audio directions so happy to loose the CarPlay directions. In that scenario is it possible to listen to the audio DAB?

Yes. Mute navigation CarPlay with Audi radio Dab sound.

What are the carplay options for a 2017 Q5? I tried to search but didn’t find much. I do see RSNAV as a good option or the alibaba link in this thread but is it possible to enable carplay via software/VCDS on my model?
