Personally, I went with Hartmann wheels. I put winter tires on the 19" rims, and got a set of 20" Hartmann HRS4-252-GS for the summer. They seem comparable to OEM quality to me (not that I'd necessarily be able to tell, I suppose), and can be used with a suitable OEM centre cap.

BTW, there is a used set of Q5 factory 17's w/ snow fitment now on ebay (and two more pricy new ones from a dealer), a couple of 18" take off type sets, and a 19" set of factory wheels (no rubber).
The eBay seller quotes the genuine OEM 17" wheel dimensions as 17" x 7", offset ET 37 ...

I saw the post claiming that the 17" problems are relative to the brake disc diameter. However, I'm not too sure what to look for, or ask the dealer about(?) My Q5 3.0T will be Canadian.

^This. I'm a big fan of the OEM / OEM+ look when it comes to wheels on my vehicle. I would either get take-offs (from eBay or Craigslist) or knock-offs from Hartmann, VMR, etc. I would think it might be challenging to find take-offs as most people with the 20" OEM would probably want to keep them. But, I'm sure they're out there.

Besides the flat bottom steering wheel and black headliner the s-line wheels were the main reason I went with the s-line package. I believe bigger nice looking wheels really transforms the looks of the Q.
