Thought I would share the (more or less) conclusion of my search for a dipstick for the Q5 2.0T - picked up the dipstick with part number 06J115611E (listed specifically for the A4 and several VWs with the 2.0T motor) from the dealer (as the shipping costs of the on-line retailers ended up making the total more than what I paid at the dealer). Tested in the Q5 and it shows the oil just above the full mark - which matches (more or less) what the MMI displays. I also decided to use the dipstick for checking purposes only and will leave the plug in place unless I need to check the oil manually.

How in the hell would the service department know if they have or have not added the correct amount of oil if they didn't have a dipstick.
I enquired about a dipstick at my dealer yesterday and was told they are regarded as a tool now so they are not for sale - I guess the dealer has the Audi "tool" so they can use it to tell when they have added the right amount of oil - just not available to us owners (unless you can find one from a third party parts shop)

After being told by my dealer that the dipstick for the Q5 is a "tool" and not for sale I found this posting and went to the website and found a listing for a dipstick for a 3.2 liter V6 engine and have now ordered one - will re-post when I receive and try it in the engine.

After my last oil change (at 21,000 miles) my oil level indicator showed max level ALL of the time and 4,000 miles later was still showing max level so yesterday I took it to the dealership and they checked the system and found a faulty micro-switch for the hood and replaced it - that this will fix the fault. They did say that they found the level was down so they topped it up. When I got home I checked the level with the MMI indicator and it showed max level.

With a dipstick I will have a level of confidence in what I see the oil level is that I don't have now - especially if the hood switch fails again. There was no indication that something was wrong other than the MMI indicator always showed max level.
