Thule bike mount on audi cross bars for Q5
Hi all,
New Q5 owner set to take delivery in one week. Planning on mounting a bike to roof, literally at the dealership before driving off for 2800 miles cross country. I have an existing Thule fork mount bike carrier but use it on round bars. Any current Q5 owners carrying bikes on their roof and if so any issues you think I need to know ahead of time. I have read through the threads here and know about the noise as well as the square bars but can't find dimensions of the actual bar to see if it is compatible with what I have. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Can you swing by the dealership and test fit on another Q5 (since they all come with the bars) and/or just test the bars?
I have 2 Yakima Forklifts on the roof with no issues, works great.
Good luck!

Did more research and liked your choice. Bought the Forklift as that looks like the best option to fit factory bars. If too noisy then I will add the Thule rubber strips that replace the factory supplied ones. Thanks.

I have been using Yakima Rail Grab on our Q7 and have not had any problems with two tandems on top. Make sure you ask for the PIN adapters. They should not charge you for them but you do have to ask for them. The PIN adapter only go into on hole per corner. I thought this would be half as strong but have not had any issues. We have also carried SUP and kayaks on top no issues what so ever.

I also have a couple of Yakima Forklifts that I leave on all the time. Adds some noise but to me it is more than worth it. It's a personal decision though. As I recall it was a big increase in noise with the crossbars on, a smaller increase with the Forklifts and another big increase with bikes - especially at hiway speeds!
