Fuel door not opening?

Fuel door not opening?
Got out of the car (2010 Q5 prestige) to gas it up... and the gas door wouldn't open... doors were definitely unlocked, fob has solid battery.
Locked/unlocked a number of times but the door never unlatched. After about 4 minutes of panic it just popped.
Anyone seen this? Is there a manual release somewhere in case of emergencies? Had this car for 2.5 years and never had this happen...

The first year I owned the Q5 I had the opposite of this happen. The fuel door wouldn't close. It kept popping back out unless I tried closing it a few times. It's been fine since and probably just an adjustment problem that fixed itself.

Same thing happened to me several months ago (2009 A4 Avant). Dealership replaced the whole door mechanism under warranty.

Your manual may be a little different than mine - I have the Canadian version. It should be in the Vehicle Care section
Anyway, behind the side panel in the trunk (passenger side) there is a red pull cord. If you pull it then it will unlock the door.

You need this:

Great info, I hope I don't need all of those
I'm cool to work on my own car- but one thing that I DO like to have is a manual- haven't been able to find any except from shady kind of weird sites or ebay. How difficult is this part to replace, and does my problem accurately describe its failure? Hate to spend the cash do the work and find the problem persists...
